Last week I showed you a wonderful fashion exhibition in New York. Today I present you a museum I have never heard of before. I am really confused about the fact that I didn’t know it. It’s the Palais Galliera, City of Paris Museum of Fashion. I was in Paris for several times, but I have never seen any advertising or posters. One reason more to introduce this museum here.
The museum presents only special exhibitions, meaning, if they prepare a new exhibition the museum is closed. Their collection is not permanently on display. Right now you could visit the exhibition “Anatomy of a Collection” until the 23rd of October 2016. Sounds very interesting!
The central question of the exhibition is: Who wears what?
Ranging from court wear to work overalls and from celebrities to average people, the exhibition draws on the Galliera collection for around a hundred garments and accessories illustrating fashion from the 18th century up ’til now. Some of the shown dresses are very famous like Napoleon’s waistcoat, Audrey Hepburn’s outfit, Elsa Schiaparelli’s overcoat, a dress worn by the Duchess of Windsor, Tilda Swinton’s pyjama suit and some more.
If you have been in Paris several times and you are a fashion victim, I think it’s time to visit this smaller museums in this wonderful city. (Not always the same like Louvre, Musée d’Orsay or Centre Pompidou.) Try something new! Musée de la mode is part of the Palais Galliera, a neo-renaissance palace. The pics on the website look gorgeous.
