#OlafurBaroque | BAROQUE BAROQUE

Two weeks ago, I went to Vienna. The reason was an exhibition I had to see: BAROQUE BAROQUE by Olafur Eliasson. I travelled through Europe last year already to see an exhibition of this great artist. I went on a journey to Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris to have a look at the fantastic exhibition (#eliassonflv). So I had to go to the Winterpalais in Vienna, too. The palais was built as a lavish stately residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. The rooms are magnificently and unique.

Right now the artist grapples with the baroque rooms and the interior. The result is absolutely amazing! If you visit exhibitions of Eliasson, you shouldn’t do this alone, so Julia accompanied me. (She will also write about Vienna’s sweetes side of life.) 😉

The exhibition of Eliasson is interactive. You can have a look at it alone, but it makes more fun if more than one person takes a part in it. I’m a big fan of the artworks by Olafur Eliasson. Some objects seems to be very nondescript, but if you sit a little with them, they become spectacular works. If you take photos with your camera, the pictures are unique.

My favorite objects include, among others, the light installation “New Berlin Sphere, 2009”. This object is something like a ball, “a myriad of rhomboid stainless steel panels are mounted on the outer set of spirals to form a fragmented, blackish skin. The inner set of the ball supports equally numerous panels of colored glass in magenta, cyan and yellow.” The interaction of dark and color is so impressive.

A lot of fun for all visitors was „Your uncertain shadow (colour), 2010“. This installation depends on the interaction and participation of the visitors. While you enter this light installation you get automatically in contact to other visitors. Julia and me enjoyed this a lot. Exhibitions of this artist are always fun: you don’t need any previous knowledge, you can simple enjoy it.

Right now I’m looking forward to the summer when the Studio of Olafur Eliasson will exhibit in Versailles. YAY!!! Paris, I‘m coming!
