(Art)Books we love | Our personal highlights 2015

Christmas and New Year’s Eve is close which means this is the last #artbookfriday post for this year. It’s amazing how time flew by. We will take a look back at the first seven months of MuseumLifestyle after Christmas and already getting ready for next year. There are so many awesome exhibitions and fashion events coming up 😉 So stay tuned.

Back to the books! We prepared our favorite of all art books we got this year. There are some new ones we couldn’t write about, too. We hope you like our little list. If you still need some presents they’re also worth buying.

Still the book which impressed me the most this year! It’s a true coffee table edition with a lavish cover made from fabric. It’s available with three different covers and really extensive. Read the whole story in this post.

This is a book I haven’t written about yet. I bought it a few months before we started the blog but it’s a true keeper. I discovered the photographer Nickolas Muray when I was still working at Marta Museum in Herford. Photos by him were part of the Frida Kahlo exhibition we showed there. He is one of the most important American photographers and the first who used color prints. Furthermore he was the lover of Frida Kahlo for over ten years and deeply in love with her, but he also photographed all the famous actresses and artists of his time. He became a really famous advertisement photographer and you probably know a lot of his images without knowing that they were made by him. Muray really fascinates me and I travelled through the whole country to his a big retrospective of his work. That’s where I bought the catalogue. The exhibition is over and who knows if there will be another one soon. If you’re an art and fashion lover you should get yourself this book.

Last but not least the book “Best of British” really got me. It was so much fun to read about the traditional British brands which still present a timeless style and are known all around the world. I just love this book because it’s beautiful, well written and just awesome. It’s a must-have for all fans of Britain and its style. You find all about it in this post.

This book is so cute. During the last week I told so many people about it and I know a lot of adults also like it very much. And some kids – maybe – will find this book under the christmas tree.

At the moment I am reading the exhibition catalogue “ego update”. The first essay of Douglas Coupland “The 2 1/2th Dimenson. Notes on Selfies” was fantastic. The second essay is written by Jerry Saltz “Art at Arm’s Length”. “It’s possible that the selfie is the most prevalent popular genre ever” Jerry Saltz guesses. The papers of the authors are put in a nutshell. I really enjoy reading them, because I hadn’t the faintest idea of this topic.
