(Art)Books we love | How to be parisian

It’s art book Friday on the blog again. Time just runs so quickly. I guess you all know that feeling. But still it’s my personal goal to publish a post about an art book every week. As I read so much and collected so many I just want to share the passion about it. The last posts all were about exhibition catalogs so this week is not exactly about an art book but about a fashion book for a change. A very humorous one in fact. I think I haven’t read such a funny and kind a sarcastic book in weeks and I am really happy I got my copy for a review from btb.
The book is full of wit and self-deprecating humor, the four French authors Anne Berest, Caroline De Maigret, Audrey Diwan and Sophie Mas explain all those female subjects such as fashion, makeup, men, culture and lifestyle as only a true Parisian can. It’s hilarious! And they really write about everything you can image, they never heard the term about don’t kiss and tell. The genre is hard to define though. It’s not a novel and it doesn’t combine different short stories. It’s more a collection of statements, stories, sayings, recipes and life concepts. That makes it pretty easy to read on one side, on the other side I read it in just a couple of hours. But you can read it again and again. It’s a book which will entertain you for years if you like the kind of humor.
I also like it so much because it’s a book for independent women. It celebrates the feminine side of life and gives you a pretty good feeling about yourself. It tells you to love yourself, love your flaws and your mistakes. It’s also homage to every mother on this planet and all the life lessons they teach us. Life lessons you won’t listen too when you’re younger just to look back and tell her she was right. As I am a big fan of people who know about their flaws and stand up for their imperfection no matter what media tells them I totally go with the statements of the four female authors. Those four are confident and intelligent, they don’t look for Mr. Right and they rather drink a glass of wine than work-out in the gym. In this globalized world where most people talk about self improvement and surgery all the time it’s a great change to read about women who think it’s great to look your age and celebrate life as it is for a change. I highly recommend this book for a bad day, no matter if it’s a bad hair day or a serious bad day. This book will make you laugh and appreciate yourself!
